Selling a concept and delivering a tailored product best describes what Spooner has done successfully since 1932.

Initially operating within the textile industry, the scientific approach adopted in the development of industrial drying equipment quickly doubled output in terms of speed and efficiency in the early years. Today, Spooner continues to push the boundaries and considers problem solving for customers as the operational norm, providing the converting industry with custom built solutions for the drying, curing, cooling and non-contact web handling of coated and printed materials.
As a world leader in the field of air flotation technology, the Spooner range of flotation nozzles has been developed to suit the entire range of converting applications. A recently developed, new breed of flotation nozzle, the SupaPorousFloat Nozzle, is aimed squarely at the non-contact handling of products that have a permeable nature. Although this new design has its roots firmly underpinned by many years of Spooner flotation experience, it incorporates new innovative features that help to achieve the seemingly impossible.
Extensive research and development continues to be undertaken to develop the wide range of highly efficient flotation and impingement nozzle systems to achieve the results that customers may demand in the future.

All Spooner air flotation systems feature uniform heat transfer, stable web transportation and non-contact operation.
Spooner’s air flotation dryers float the coated web on dynamic cushions of air achieving contactless and crease free operation for a multitude of applications including flexible packaging, adhesives, cellulose casings, non-wovens, medical and thermally sensitive coatings. Combining expertise with key partners, Spooner is also able to offer customers complete turnkey packages including the provision of slitting, rewinding, roll handling, coating, laminating, drying and air pollution control.
However, our customer-focused design teams and integral manufacturing capabilities are only part of the story. Comprehensive in-house pilot resources provide testing facilities to ensure that each product meets the specific demands of each customer, irrespective of the application. These are available for product development, web handling trials, process validation and short product runs and include a high-speed reel-to reel coating and laminating machine
With energy prices remaining high, the incentive to save energy and ultimately reduce costs makes energy efficient process machinery an investment. However simulating customer processes at an interim development stage to produce samples for further testing, for example, also provides a competitive way of trialling new products for customers. This is of particular value when specific requirements are critical to the performance of the material and further R&D may be required before full production can be rolled out.

To complete the picture, teams of SpoonerPlus engineers are deployed to customer sites worldwide to receive the product delivery, install and commission the equipment, ensuring the machinery is set up correctly and that process performance criteria are met. Client machine operator and maintenance personnel training is also delivered during the commissioning and start-up phases of each project.
In summary, Spooner is in the business of delivering tailored technology, optimum processes and enhanced manufacturing capabilities through skilled engineering solutions from start to finish. Decades worth of in-depth knowledge and understanding of specific web coating and drying processes, ensure the design and engineering of optimal drying solutions meet individual customer requirements.
